The Sinking Wall

Seems to me weakened walls, like self-destructive people, can be supported only for awhile. Eventually, anything out of plumb will yield to the constant downward tugging. All you can do then is run for cover.

The “Post Office”

   Posted by: Fred Aun

There’s a shell of an ancient building on our property. We call it the Post Office because that’s what it was once, a very long time ago. It was inside one of its crumbling walls that I found the Babe Ruth clipping. The structure once had a dignified place in the village.

In addition to being a post office, it was a store and a gas station. The folks we bought it from wanted to turn it into an ice cream parlor. Now it’s a disaster waiting to happen. I figure the northeast wall will be the first to collapse. I really hope the tilted, sagging hulk hangs on until it can be shored-up.
